Although I have heard of this many times before, but this is quite powerful and specific than what I used to know. We have known from many sources of media to understand that “KNOW YOUR TARGET MARKET FIRST BEFORE YOU START YOUR BUSINESS”, but how do we really apply this to our actual business environment and make it effective? How can we attract the RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE to our business by using this technique accurately, no matter what business you are doing right now?
To be more precisely, let’s get deeper into the general topic here. The questions we should ask ourselves are:
1. WHO is your target market?
2. What kinds of things are they looking for, thinking about, and concerned about?
3. What are their needs and some problems you can solve?
Now, let’s break them down, one by one, to see what they really are…
For example, let’s say you are selling the weight loss product. Our goal is to have more people come to you and ready to buy your products. In order to do that, we need to know WHO we want to sell the products to so that we are able to RELATE our products to their needs (our target market).
If your answer to this question is to target people who are overweight, you would be wrong, because you need to look deeper than what’s on the surface.
First of all, there are many factors we need to consider. You have to decide which area of target market you want to target to before you know which ones you want to go after. You have to understand what their concerns are – problems? Fears? What are the things they talk about, think about, dream about, or read about? What are the types of people that might be interested in what you have to offer?
Here are some of the questions you can follow when it comes to decide your target audience:
1. People who have purchased the weight loss products before because most likely they are willing to buy similar products again. However, would you think that they might get frustrated all the failure experiences? Most likely they don’t trust weight loss products anymore because all their previous weight loss products didn’t work for them. You need to understand their pain and RELATE to their needs if you want to attract this target market. However, if you can’t relate to their pain and frustration to their problems, you cannot offer them the solution to their needs.
2. You can relate to the parents with overweight children. Do you think that most families might have concern about their children’s health? What is their unique concern about their overweight children? You need to know that before you can attract them to you.
3. You can target to the baby boomers that have been battling with their weight. Do you know what their unique concern is? In fact, they might be concerning their health problems they are dealing with right now that are associated with their overweight issue. Their fears might be related to their heard problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, or not be able to play with their grandkids with their current health conditions. There is a lot of factor to it, and you need to think about how they feel and address their issue to your solution. Bottom line, you need to think about their reality.
This is the first step about how to attract your prospects to your market effectively. It’s really not complicated, but it does require some efforts to brainstorm it if you want to make it work effectively. Regardless of what you are selling, you need to learn how to apply this technique from now on to do it the right way.
